Politics affects us all in our everyday lives. The business we run, the school we send our children to, the hospitals we turn to in our hour of need. Decisions made in Cardiff Bay have an impact on everybody – but not everybody in Wales feels that they are being listened to. That’s what this website is about.
Since January, I have been getting out and about across Wales and talking to people about the issues that they feel strongly about; about how decisions that are being made – or not – in the Assembly are currently affecting them. In Community Engagement Forums, I’ve been pleased to welcome representatives from groups of all interests and backgrounds, from Airbus and Toyota to BT and the FSB. Now I want to go further. I want to give you the opportunity to have your say directly.
YOUR VOICE IN THE ASSEMBLY is designed to be an interactive discussion forum. We want you to have the opportunity to take part in the debate, and to have the chance to talk to us about the performance of the National Assembly. Your feedback will be used directly to influence Welsh Conservative policy. Because the development of policy and the conduct of government should be informed by a body of opinion that extends far beyond the confines of Cardiff Bay.
Speakers’ Corner will be an online debating forum, with regular contributions from our Assembly Members and, more importantly, submissions from organisations and groups from outside the ‘bubble’. There will be times when we won’t agree with the views contained within these articles – and equally there will be contributors who don’t necessarily share our ideals. But we mustn’t be afraid of that.
We want to establish a vibrant and democratic conversation with organisations, businesses and individuals in communities across Wales about how we can improve public services and make Wales a better place in which to live. That starts by admitting that we don’t have all the answers.
Which is where you come in.
